Atheist Preachers

Atheist Preachers. Sounds contradictory, doesn’t it? Well it is, but it is also a new reality in these days of apostasy.

Tufts University’s Center for Cognitive Studies recently announced it found several ministers in churches who no longer believe in God, but keep it secret for job security. The report presents case studies of five unbelieving ministers.

One was a a worship leader in a Southern Baptist church. “John” identifies himself as a worship leader who does not believe in God. He says his pursuit of Christianity “brought me to the point of not believing in God.”

He explains, “I didn’t plan to become an atheist. I didn’t even want to become an atheist. It’s just I had no choice. If I’m being honest with myself.” (“Preachers Who Are Not Believers, ” Center for Cognitive Studies, Tufts University, March 15, 2010)

Well, while he may be being honest with himself, why isn’t he honest with the church he serves?

How can a person take a salary from believe who believe one thing while he believes another?

It’s a sign of the times. And a vivid example of apostasy.

Take The Pope Directly To Jail?

Some people will do anything for a little publicity. Now atheists Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens are calling for Pope Benedict XVI to be arrested during his state visit to the United Kingdom September 16 to 19. The atheists say he should be arrested for “crimes against humanity,” including shielding priests who abused children.

Well, it isn’t going to happen, of course. In a series of articles The New York Times came to the conclusion that the present Pope actually is the one who has taken steps to deal with the situation openly and forthrightly. (The Christian Post, 4.12)

I have many issues with the Catholic Church and its Pope. But, this is just the attempt of two atheists to attack religion in general and Christianity in particular.

Sexual abuse is horrible and should be dealt with wherever it occurs. But, seems to me these two atheists are exploiting a tragic situation for their own devious purposes.

“Imagine No Religion” Billboards

darwin_20090923180816_320_240.JPGSeven large billboards reading – “Imagine No Religion” or “Praise Darwin: Evolve Beyond Belief” are going up in the Metro-Detroit area next month. They are part of a campaign by the Freedom from Religion Foundation to promote atheism they plan similar billboards in more than 30 cities in 10 states.

Paul Pearson, one of the leaders of the group says, “This is an attempt at balancing the media messages of religion aimed at believers, letting unbelievers and those with healthy skeptical doubt know the Freedom from Religion Foundation exists” (ChristianPost.com, 9.30).

Ho hum. God has some bigger billboards. “The heavens declare the glory of God: and the firmament shows His handiwork” (Psalm 19:1).
